USC's Marshall School of Business is seeking a Student Services Advisor to join its team.
The Office of Undergraduate Advising supports the education and development of undergraduate students in USC's Marshall School of Business by providing a broad array of academic support and co-curricular programs and services including academic advisement, the Marshall Connections Program, scholarships for continuing students, and commencement. The office serves an undergraduate population of nearly 4,000 students (majors and minors).
The Office of Undergraduate Advising supports the education and development of undergraduate students in USC's Marshall School of Business by providing a broad array of academic support and co-curricular programs and services including academic advisement, the Marshall Connections Program, scholarships for continuing students, and commencement. The office serves an undergraduate population of nearly 4,000 students (majors and minors).
Academic advisors help students understand degree requirements; create, clarify, and refine educational goals and plans; explore curricular and co-curricular opportunities; select majors, minors, and study abroad experiences; understand academic policies and procedures; connect with faculty members and university resources; address concerns and challenges both inside and outside that classroom that impact academic success; determine academic goals and develop meaningful educational plans. Advisors work closely with other departments and offices to ensure students are effectively served, and may be responsible for coordinating co-curricular or other academic support programs.
Duties for the position include:
• Provide academic counseling for undergraduate students. Advise on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, and graduation counseling and clearance.
• Monitor student progress, maintain academic unit student records, and assist with petition applications.
• Advise students on an individual and group basis as part of assigned student program and services. May meet with parents to provide information and facilitate problem resolution.
• Interface with faculty, administrators, and students regarding policies and student academic progress.
• Evaluate student problems (academic, administrative or personal) and refer students to appropriate student support services. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
• Maintain currency on policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions, and other student services.
• Assess targeted student or group needs and recommend programs or services. Assist in the design and delivery of student programs, services and special events.
• Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to student workers, volunteers and/or graduate assistants. Assist them in developing skills through the planning and coordination of services and activities.
• Assist in planning and coordinating student events and co- curricular programs including commencement, new student welcome, orientation, academic information sessions, and award ceremonies.
• Interface with faculty and staff to exchange and update information or to enlist support for program services, e.g., guest speaking engagements and faculty advisor programs.
• Participate in the development and implementation of program policies and procedures such grading policies, academic progress, and mandatory student advising.
• Assist in planning and administering special programs such as faculty advisor programs, peer tutorial or advisor groups, and honors groups.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
