Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Education and working closely with the Senior Vice President for Education and Public Programs, the Docent Council Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Docent Council volunteer group, scheduling school tours, interfacing with teachers, providing materials for docents touring special exhibitions and the permanent collection, and scheduling training sessions. Some duties include: Oversees all logistics related to school tours on-site; provides assistance to teachers in planning their visit to the museum; schedules school tours and maintains online reservation system; manages the free bus program for school tours, including working with bus companies and schools; maintains and analyzes statistics on school and public tours; works with Development and Special Events to arrange docents for VIP groups; works with the Supervisor of Operations, On-Site Services to run online booking; provides general support and guidance to Group Sales in arranging tours for paying guests; updates the Bring Your Class to LACMA and calendar web pages; works with content specialists, curatorial administrators, and curators to obtain object lists, reference materials, floor plans, and other materials needed for docents to prepare their tours; schedules training sessions for docents with curators and educators; facilitates procedure meetings with Security, Box Office, and Education staff; tracks, analyzes and manages a $135K budget for busing and supplies; order supplies and submits purchase order requests and processes invoice requests as a Power User; works with the Senior Vice President for Education and Public Programs on the overall scope of the docent program. The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art Administration, or Art Education, and at least two years of experience working with volunteers, managing programs for students and working with school administrators and classroom teachers. Some knowledge on teaching skills preferred.
