Dear Olga,
Wow. What a way to start the week.
By now you've heard that the Supreme Court struck down restrictions on abortion access in Texas — a huge victory.
But there was another victory this week you might not have heard about: The official draft of the Democratic Party platform calls for ending the anti-choice Helms Amendment once and for all!
This victory for women around the world is largely because of you. After decades of harm, we launched a campaign to make candidates for president take a stand. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders did. Each pledged to act to allow safe abortions for women around the world pregnant as a result of rape or incest and women whose lives are threatened by pregnancy. And they went further by saying they would support repealing the law altogether. Then, two weeks ago, thousands of you joined me in urging the Democratic Party to include repealing Helms in their official platform for the first time ever. And they listened.
Of course the work doesn't end here. We still have to get candidates up and down the ballot on the record supporting women's reproductive health — including supporting safe abortion care. And once elected, we must hold them accountable to their campaign promises.
Sincerely,
LGBT Connection Action Fund
P.S. — These wins are powered by the support of people like you. If you're ready to join our campaign and fight for the full repeal of the Helms Amendment, make a gift to Population Connection Action Fund right now. Thank you for standing with us.
